The theatre wrede +
is a modern and progressive theatre. As an avant-garde it sees itself
challenged to continue researching and testing theatre in all of its
forms. The desire to experiment has always been the driving motivation
on the way to new implementation forms and contents for adults, teenagers
and children, and the artists that participate in the projects come
from all over Germany.
Since October 2009, theatres and other venues in the area of the railway
station carry the name of theatre wrede
+: the highlighted "red"
in the name wrede stands for "networking
and passion" and the symbol "+"
marks the more intensive internationalization
of the network and the artistic exchanges, e.g. the permanent collaboration
with Canada. From the beginning the international networking in and
with other countries has been promoted by way of productions, collaborations,
tours, seminars and festivals.
Already in 1994 there was a production for the festival in Bogotá
combined with a tour throughout Colombia. The project "Story
Telling", which was commissioned by the European Union, took
place in Iceland in 2004 with the participation of the host country,
Greece, Scotland, and Germany. Between 2005 and 2007 there were two
tours throughout Korea and Japan, as well as further guest appearances
in Spain, France and Serbia. The Festival "sound of the time",
which was brought to life by the theater wrede
+, gathered guest groups from
Serbia, The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany together in Oldenburg.
On the pipeline is a collaboration with India and the famous director,
performer and professor Maya Krishna Rao.
The plays are characterized for their multifaceted use of different
media. In the performances for adults, space, video, acting, sound,
music and movement are interweaved to form a unique composition. The
delineation between stage and auditorium is often completely ignored
to create new perspectives that expand the boundaries of modern theatre.
The especial use of music in the plays has proven itself to be at
the cutting edge: keywords "Composed Theatre". In the future
all the venues in the area will be expanded to become a Production
Company, where young professional artists will be given the opportunity
to experiment. The project "young artists in residence",
which will start in 2011, is the first step on the road to becoming
a recognized/accredited Production Company.
